Sparks is a narrative-first experience, powered not by rigid rules or math-heavy mechanics, but by evocative cards that inspire characters, choices, and outcomes. Instead of crunching numbers, you and your group collaborate through shared creativity and consensus, weaving stories that are vibrant, surprising, and unforgettable through a negotiated narrative.

With 240 cards in the core Character creation deck, Sparks offers over a quarter of a billion possible character combinations, each sparking the seed of a unique persona. From that spark, you build as much depth and background as you desire. By highlighting just a few key areas of expertise, you give your character an edge in play—gaining advantages when the story calls upon their skills.

When your character takes action, you describe what you’re aiming to achieve, draw a card from the Resolution deck, and let the word on it guide the outcome—whether triumphant, disastrous, or somewhere in between. Drawing with advantage expands possibilities, and cards kept in reserve can flip the story in dramatic ways. The core deck consists of 360 cards and flavoured decks for different genres add depth to gameplay. Sparks isn't about dice, stats, or charts. It’s about unlocking imagination, fueling collaboration, and shifting the focus from mechanics to storytelling. Sparks has been in use amongst an extended group of gamers for over a quarter of a century but we've jealously kept it to ourselves. We're now looking to spread the love to gamers the world over. The next step for Sparks is a Kickstarter campaign to bring the system to life in print. The campaign will fund the creation of a beautifully crafted rulebook and expand Sparks with a variety of evocative art formats, giving players even more inspiration at the table. Backers will help shape the final form of Sparks, supporting a system that thrives on creativity and community.
